Human thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland in neck, just above the collarbone. It is one of your endocrine glands, which make hormones. Thyroid hormones control the rate of many activities in your body. These include how fast one can burn calories and how fast heart beats. All of these activities are your body's metabolism.

If thyroid gland is underactive that is it unable to produce enough of the hormone thyroxin, also called T4, condition is said to be Hypothyroidism. It can make you gain weight, feel fatigued, and have difficulty dealing with cold temperatures.

If thyroid is too active, it makes more thyroid hormones than normal human needs. That condition is called Hyperthyroidism. Too much thyroid hormone can make you lose weight, speed up your heart rate, and make you very sensitive to heat.

Body waste and toxins deposited or retained in organs, blood and inside free places of our body, causes all type of diseases so cleaning of body in every condition guarantees a best health.

Hypothyroidism Causes

The most common causes behind hypothyroidism are

  • The immune system attacking the thyroid gland – this happens due to weaker immunity system which led to damage of own body tissues or gland.
  • A damaged thyroid gland.
  • Congenital defects in the production of thyroid hormone: Hypothyroidism can be present from birth. This is commonly discovered early with nationwide newborn screening for this disease.
  • Lack of Iodine: Body requires iodine to produce thyroxine hormone. This is quite common reason in rural areas.
  • Medications: Some medications, particularly lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid), may cause a drug-induced hypothyroidism.

Hyperthyroidism Causes

  • Graves' disease: It is a disorder in which body immune system attacks the thyroid gland and causing it to produce too much thyroid gland. This disorder is hereditary and commonly occurs in women than in man. Grave disease is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism found in 85% cases.
  • Thyroid Nodules: A thyroid nodule is a lump or growth of cells (which may be cancerous on non-cancerous) in a thyroid gland which may cause it to produce thyroid hormones more than body needs.
  • Thyroiditis: This is the inflammation in the thyroid gland due to infection in immune system of body. This disorder may cause leak of hormones in body.
